Based on a historical review of twentieth century architectural criticism and avant-garde mo - vements, with a special emphasis on the methods of representation of each period, this arti - cle examines the work of Rem Koolhaas, one of the most important architects of recent de - cades. By understanding his early approach to architecture, expressed in his thesis Exodus, Or the Voluntary Prisoners of Architecture, as a response to the contradictions of modernity and fetishes of postmodernity, we can then understand his second period, exemplified by oma’s cctv building.
